PETER CUMPSTEY BSc ACIB

Peter Cumpstey is the founder and Managing Partner of his own firm, which specialises in developing the performance of both people and businesses - with a specific focus on driving change and developing leadership. Peter has 20 years of corporate experience in a wide range of senior management roles in Financial Services and Consulting.

Prior to starting his own business Peter’s experience included roles as Head of Finance for the UK Corporate Division of Midland Bank, Head of Credit for HSBC’s European Private Bank and Chief Operating Officer for HSBC’s UK Private Banking businesses. In this latter role Peter was responsible for the centralisation and integration of all the back-office functions (operations, IT, credit and HR) for the range of subsidiary Private Banking businesses across the UK, the Channel Islands and Europe that ultimately became HSBC Private Banking Europe. Subsequently Peter joined KPMG Management Consulting as a Lead Principal Consultant, leading multinational change and strategic development initiatives for global companies in the UK, mainland Europe, America and the Far East.

Peter’s key skills lie in strategic development, change facilitation, leadership/management development and key project/programme management. His achievements in working closely with businesses to deliver both commercial and technology-led change and measurable performance improvements have earned him respect as a motivational leader, as an accomplished “man-manager” and as a highly effective consultant. Assignments include design/delivery of leadership development programmes for the top 120 directors/senior managers of a private-public partnership business; design and delivery of a business development programme “Building on Success” for one of the leading syndicates in the Lloyd’s Insurance Market; design and implementation of development centre feedback in a large public sector organisation, including 360 degree and executive mentoring; design of new recruitment and partnership development/assessment processes for a major international law firm; and a business development and EFQM excellence-monitoring programme for a UK finance house.

Peter has recently been appointed by the UK Chartered Management Institute (CMI) to author fifteen leadership and management development scenarios (audio/visual case studies for web-based delivery) including the presentation of the “expert feedback” that will provide the centre-piece of the CMI’s new eLearning provision.

Qualified in a number of psychometric tools including MBTI, Apter Motivational Styles and SDI, Peter has had papers published by Organisation and People (The Quarterly Journal of AMED) and e-Learning Age.
